Future Earth

Future Earth is an international research program whose central goal is to provide knowledge for transformations towards a globally sustainable development. To this end, it offers a platform and brings together scientists from a wide range of disciplines as well as research and practice at an international level.

The international network of scientists, researchers and innovators is composed of the Global Research Projects (GRP), Knowledge Action Networks (KANs), and Early Careers (EC). The Governing Council of Future Earth is composed of the Belmont Forum, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations University (UNU), the International Science Council (ISC), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the STS (Science and Technology in Society) Forum. The Future Earth Secretariat, which consists of five global hubs and four regional offices, is responsible for operational tasks. An Advisory Committee complements Future Earth´s governance structure. The Advisory Committee is formed by renowned scientists and currently chaired by Leena Srivastava and Johan Rockström. Finally, national Future Earth committees exist in many countries, such as the German Committee Future Earth (DKN).
