DKN panel discussion as part of the Sustainability Research & Innovation Congress 2022 (SRI2022)

Our society is facing various challenges which science can contribute to cope with. Especially with regard to increasing urgency of the climate, biodiversity and food crises, sustainability research can constructively support the development of solutions and the transformation towards a sustainable society. The current global political situation additionally increases the need for action, ideally based on a solid knowledge base.

Building on its position paper “Research Priorities for Sustainability Science”, the DKN aims to discuss current challenges and important future research fields within this panel discussion. Focal points of the session will be interrelations of sustainability and climate sciences using the example of the food crisis, implications of sustainability and climate politics as well as the potential of public investment to foster resilience of society and economy.

Together with our guests

• Prof. Michael Bollig, Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Cologne, Germany / DKN
• Dr. Daphne Frank, Senior Climate Coordinator Africa, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)
• Dr. Ibrahima Hathie, Research Director "Initiative Prospective Agricole et Rurale", Senegal
• Prof. Daniela Jacob, Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS) / DKN
• Prof. Corine Pelluchon, Department of Philosophy, Université Gustave Eiffel, France

we aim to discuss the manifold epistemological, theoretical, and methodological challenges of sustainability science and foster motivation to engage across these disciplinary boundaries. For a comprehensive discourse, we invite agents in science, science management, science funding and practice from a national and an international context to take part in this discussion. Due to the relevance of the topic for future research, especially early-career researchers are invited to actively engage in this session.

We are looking forward to an exciting discussion on the panel as well as with the audience on site and online!

The session will take place virtually via the Sustainability Research & Innovation Congress 2022 (SRI2022) online platform as an open access session (free of charge). For more information on the event, please refer to the SRI2022 programme.
